Annual Vacation

Vacation time and eligibility are regulated by the Labor Law. Annual vacation is granted at least once per working year. Normally vacation time is 20 calendar days for staff and 40 calendar days for faculty.

All vacation forms must be submitted through the LCC portal and approved by the supervisor. Student break time is not vacation time for employees. If time off is needed – vacation forms must be submitted.

At least one part of vacation cannot be shorter than 10 workdays. Vacation schedules for the summer must be submitted by the Division head to the HR office by May 1st. 75% of the annual vacation must be taken in the same working year.

During annual vacation, the employee receives their average salary. Upon request, the money is paid with the employee’s upcoming monthly salary or 1 day before the start of vacation. It is prohibited to exchange annual vacation days with monetary compensation unless the work contract is terminated and the employee is paid for unused vacation days. Leaves of Absence

LCC employees can take time away from work for a variety of reasons including personal, family, community, as well as other non-work-related interests and obligations. Employees are expected to follow the request procedures described in Policy HR 3.1 Leaves of Absence. Most common leaves of absence outside of vacation time include:

  • Sporadic sick leave can be taken due to the employee’s illness, injury or accident or for the care of a sick or injured immediate family member. Sporadic leave is capped at 6 days per calendar year and can be taken for a maximum of 2 consecutive working days in a given month. Sporadic sick leave days are not accumulated.
  • There has been a Labor Code amendment that came into effect on 1 August 2022 regarding Family Day (not yet represented in the policy). Employees raising one child under the age of 12 are entitled to a Family Day for 1 day per 3 months (3 months being counted in quarters of the calendar year). During the 3rd quarter of the year, if parents want to take September 1st for accompanying their children to educational institutions, they are obligated to take it as a Family Day. The absence form should be filled in the LCC portal with the purpose indicated as “Family Day, according to 138 chapter of the Lithuanian Labor Law.”

For other types of leaves, see the policy.

Employment of Students

Students are often available during the school year and in the summer months to fill student assistant positions.

  • The number of student assistant positions, as well as the number of hours designated to each division/department, is set by the HR office.

  • Once the candidate has been selected, the supervisor begins the formal hiring process by submitting the Employment Form to the HR Compliance Specialist. The Employment Form should be filled out and sent by the supervisor to the HR Compliance Specialist at least 3 working days before a student is employed on campus.
  • Students are not authorized to work until the required paperwork is approved and completely processed.

Goal setting and performance management (Staff only)

The performance management process aims to objectively determine the employee’s standing at LCC International University through communicating expectations, evaluating goals, recognizing accomplishments and progress, and identifying areas for improvement. It is designed to help employees and their supervisors create a higher level of accountability as well as identify areas of continuous professional growth.

Timeline for the Performance Management process:

  • May – August 31 – all Staff employees complete Performance Evaluation
  • August 1 – September 30 – departmental and individual Staff employee Goal Setting
  • January 1 – 31 – supervisors and employees confirm or update Goals for the year

Relationships with students

  • Staff and faculty are professionals who facilitate holistic education and engage in staff-student relationships as part of the educational process. The nature of the relationship with students is a professional one in which staff/faculty are in a position of power. This demands that staff and faculty conduct themselves in a professional manner with students and follow clear expectations for the staff/faculty-student relationship.
  • While you should be friendly with students, your professional role does not allow for the students to be your friends.
  • Staff and faculty must not pursue an intimate/romantic relationship with a student. “LCC strongly discourages faculty and staff from the pursuit of [and/or appearance of] exclusive and/or romantic relationships with students.” (Board Policy – February 1998).
  • Staff and faculty are expected to use discretion when using alcohol in the presence of students. NO purchase of alcohol for students is permitted.

More information in Policy HR.5.4.1 Relationships with Students

Harassment based on Discrimination

LCC International University seeks to pursue a safe workplace/place of study through relationships that are respectful, mutual, authentic, and based on trust. It is the policy that no member of the community -students, faculty, administrators, staff, or third parties – may harass any other member of the community.

  • Anyone who is subject to harassment should, if possible, inform the alleged harasser that the conduct is unwanted and unwelcome. If an individual can not directly approach an alleged harasser, he/she can approach one of the designated staff members responsible for receiving complaints of harassment.
  • If a student or employee believes he or she has been a victim of conduct prohibited by this policy or has witnessed/is aware of such conduct, he/she must notify Student Life Vice President(for students) or Director for Human Resources (for employees).
  • If the circumstances make it inappropriate to discuss the matter with the person designated above, the matter may be brought Director of Residence Life and Housing (for students)or the Vice President for Human Resources (employees).

Employees of the University are mandated to report all cases of sexual misconduct. Faculty and staff members (with the exception of counselors and a chaplain) do not have a special privilege or ability to maintain the confidentiality of reports shared with them and this should be communicated to the student. This is a zero-tolerance policy; thus, those who were aware of misconduct but failed to report will be held responsible and will be subjected to disciplinary action.

  • Reports can be submitted online or in oral and written form to HR or the COO.
  • Filing a report of alleged sexual misconduct does not automatically result in the investigation process and does not obligate an individual to participate in the complaint process.
  • When the University receives a report that someone in our community experienced sexual misconduct, dating violence, domestic violence, or stalking, the University will provide that person with a written summary of their rights and options, including information on contacting local police and local resources.
  • More information on the procedures in the HR 1.3 Harassment Discrimination Mobbing and Workplace Violence Policy

Alcohol and tobacco use

Although LCC does not reject moderate use of alcohol, in the interests of maintaining a safe, healthy and positive atmosphere in our community, alcohol possession, consumption, and sale on campus and at LCC sponsored events are not permitted. See SL.2.08 Alcohol on campus policy.
